The purpose of this job is to operate heavy equipment and perform manual work functions associated with construction and maintenance of water/sewer distribution and collection systems. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: operating/maintaining heavy equipment; transporting materials and equipment; performing labor activities; and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Qualified applicants should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
· Knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to utility construction, improvements and maintenance;
· Knowledge of current traffic laws;
· Knowledge of water and sewer line construction and repair techniques, proper safety procedures, and compaction characteristics of different soils; and
· Knowledge of and use and operation of various hand tools, mechanical tools, power tools, machinery and equipment.
High school diploma or equivalent required, with two years construction, heavy equipment operation, maintenance labor, or related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. This position is a safety sensitive position; therefore, it will be included in the random drug testing as referred to in the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.
WORK HOURS: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., subject to call back 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
