The purpose of this job is to perform manual work functions associated with construction and maintenance of water/sewer distribution and collection systems. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervising utility service workers; installing, maintaining and repairing water and sewer mains and lines; performing labor activities; operating/maintaining equipment; transporting materials and supplies; and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Qualified applicants should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Ø Knowledge of the methods and practices of installing, maintaining, and repairing water and sewer lines and meters;
Ø Skill in the construction, maintenance and repair of water and sewer service lines;
Ø Skill in using tools such as a wrench, pump, concrete saw, jackhammer, and metal detector;
Ø Knowledge and skill to operate various machinery and equipment including a dump truck, front-end loader, boring machine, tapping machine, etc; and
Ø Skill in oral communication.
High school diploma or equivalent required, with one year water distribution and pipeline construction and maintenance or related experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License within six months of date of hire. Requires Georgia Department of Transportation Flagging certification.
